My views and experiences about technology are mainly positive ones. Of course, there are the few incidents in which technology has not worked correctly and has left me thinking on my feet and feeling frustrated. However, the few times technology has let me down does not overshadow the numerous advantages of using technology.
Now that I have been in the classroom for my student teaching semester, I have been able to see the advantages of technology in the classroom. I am easily able to show and model for students what they will be doing at their desks. One of my favorite ways to implement technology is by having an image of the students worksheet, or whatever it is they will be working on, up on SMARTboard and allow them to come to the board to interact. When I use technology, I feel the students have a better understanding of the content as well as what is being asked of them.
It is vital that computers are used in the classroom. In my current classroom, we have an individual laptop for each student. I saw the students engaged and enjoying doing research for their writing pieces. In previous classrooms, students did not have easy access to computers and therefore had to wait for a specific day when they were signed up for the computer lab. All of their research had to be done the classic way, with encyclopedias and dictionaries. They were not excited about their pieces and it showed in their final drafts. Computers need to be accessible to students at any time to ensure they do their best and are excited to learn.
